Canada’s first unofficial woman battlefield artist, Mary Riter Hamilton spent two and a half years visiting battered landscapes in France and Belgium after the First World War. Producing more than 300 paintings, drawings and etchings, she captured the destruction caused by the conflict and the reconstruction efforts.
